New Delhi (Neha): Voting for the 15th Vice President is going on on Tuesday. Voting will take place in Parliament from 10 am to 5 pm. PM Modi cast the first vote.
NDA has fielded 68-year-old CP Radhakrishnan while INDIA has fielded 79-year-old B Sudarshan Reddy. A total of 781 MPs will cast their votes in this election. Counting of votes will begin at 6 pm. The results will be declared after this.
Meanwhile, KCR’s party BRS and former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik’s party BJD have backed out from the Vice Presidential election. Both the parties will not support any alliance. BRS has 4 MPs and BJD has 7 MPs in the Rajya Sabha.
Shiromani Akali Dal, which has only one MP in the Lok Sabha, has also refused to vote due to the floods in Punjab. AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said that he will support the candidate of India in this election. 11 MPs of YSRCP have decided to vote in favor of the NDA candidate.
The winning candidate will replace Jagdeep Dhankhar. Dhankhar suddenly resigned from his post on July 21 citing ill health. His term was till August 10, 2027.
